Easter Love

My mom used to tell me how fast time flies once you become an adult. I never really related to that statement until I had kids. Honestly, right now, an year feels like just about how six months used to feel like before having kids. Perhaps I am too busy even noticing the passage of time or perhaps time really is shrinking right before my eyes!!!

In any case, I typed all that to say that I cannot believe we just had our last meeting of the year. UNBELIEVABLE. What? we already had 7 KidsServe meetings this year??

We started our meeting by reflecting these past few months since October. Some of the favorite meetings the kids mentioned were the Christmas visit to the senior care living home, drawing pictures for others, etc. Someone mentioned her favorite was going to the fire station, although we had to remind her that was from last year. Good input though, we'll make a mental note of that.

We reflected how we served our church with cleaning, overseas kids with Christmas gifts, seniors with our singing,  juvenille detention center by wrapping Bibles, Ronald McDonald House by packing care gifts and the local children by packing food packages. I hope your children understand that they really did make a difference in someone's lives and how a simple act of spending time to pack a gift or visiting someone can brighten other's hearts, or in the case of last month, we prevented 108 kids from suffering from hunger over a weekend!!

After having pizza for celebrating our last meeting of this school year, we talked about why we celebrate Easter. We opened the resurrection eggs (check this out:(https://www.christianbook.com/resurrection-eggs-20th-anniversary-edition/9781602006515/pd/06515X) and went through each egg and its content to tell the story of Easter. Some kids were very familiar with the story and some were not at all, but we all agreed that what Jesus did on the cross and his resurrection were just so crazy amazing. One student asked "why would anyone die on a cross for others?" I always love a child's simple yet poignant questions. This is a type of question that we, no matter how long or short we have been christians must continue asking ourselves and digesting the answer over and over again to deepen our understanding of Christ's love for us..

This month's project was to pack Easter baskets for the local children who come to the food patnry at the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries.

Everyone got to work!

We always have very eager hands to pack the goodies for others. These children give me hope for our future society!

Both Renee and I would like to thank all the parents who came and helped out over this past year. Quite literally, each meeting could not have happened without your help and we are very grateful for your generous hearts to help out.

Our hope and prayer is that many years down the road, each child who experienced serving with us will remember that no matter how young/old or insignificant one may feel, God can always use us to touch other people's lives.

We look forward to serving with you all again next year!

Please spread the word for next school year that starts in October 2017.
