Fun times!
It is with profound sadness that I announce our KidsServe meeting of 2017-18 has ended. tears😭.
This school year is passing by so quickly, I barely have had any time to take a breather and reflect upon what we did over that last 7 months! Let us refresh our memory shall we?
Oct: Community Appreciation - Post Office visit
Nov: Bake Sale for Samaritan’s Purse
Dec: Caroling at assisted living (the Crossings at Chantilly)
Jan: Birthday Kits for WFCM
Feb: Valentine Secret Blessings, Firefighter Snack Bags
March: Crafts at assisted living
This month, together with our students we looked back and remembered the fun and love we provided to others. They all seemed to have enjoyed the "outings" to the post office, the assisted living home and the fire station. Many of them were still proud of our bake sale and a few had some cute comments about who they blessed with their secret Valentine's gifts. I mean, the darnedest things these sweet children say never cease to tickle my heart!
..and to finish our year strong, our service project of this month focused on blessing the families at our local emergency shelter in Fairfax called Hanley family shelter. The shelter has about 15-20 children every month who stay there for various reasons, but domestic violence being one of the main one. We collected used games and toys from you all and were donated along with newly purchased items.
The children wrote short encouraging messages to the recipients as well.
Thank you all for the donation! Our prayer is that the children and the parents who will enjoy the games will experience respite at least for a short moment from the rough reality they are faced with.
While the pizza was waiting for us, we did a final activity called "CAN do" with the kids. The can your kiddos brought back home represents God's ability, strength and how God CAN answer our prayers. We encouraged our students to write down anything that they want to tell God and want him to respond to. It maybe about their personal life (difficulty at school, home, etc) or about other people who we encountered this year through our service, or anything/anybody.
and now onto pizza time~!
While we were having pizza, we had the privilege to welcome a very special guest from Tanzania Mr. Remi, who happened to be in the area visiting his friends, our very own Gustafson family! It was such a blessing to have him, who personally knows the area our sponsor child Aisha lives.
I apologize there isn't a closer up picture, but Remi shared with us the culture, food and lives in Tanzania. It was pretty fascinating and also reassuring to know that our brothers and sisters in Christ are thriving and enjoying God's love half way across the globe!
Now, let me entertain you with a few more pictures of our students.
Thank you again for your dedication and hearts to serve with us. Renee and I are very grateful to have wonderful, committed parents and teenage helpers who are so vital to this ministry! We look forward to getting back together this October!
Your co-laborers in Christ,
Risa&Renee
