Valentine gifts

As the shortest month of the year is quickly disappearing right in front of our eyes, I would like to recapture what we did a couple of weeks ago here at KidsServe.

The theme of the month was "Giving without showing off"

As someone who is in the position to teach children how to serve, it is my desire and prayer that the children will grow up serving with the right motives.

I hope the little skit I put together (please ask your kiddos) demonstrated how foolish it is to help someone out driven by the desire only to make him/herself look better, as the Bible says:

Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
<Matthew 6:1-4>

In the spirit of "secret giving" this month's project was to create a Valentine's bag and card to give to someone in secret. The kids created beautiful cards...!

We also pointed to our local community to see examples of those who serve the community without asking for accolade. We introduced the fire fighters as a prime example as such, especially as ones who make a huge impact in our time of need.

While we teach not to seek for attention in helping, there is nothing wrong about recognizing others' hard work and dedication. So the kids got to work on creating thank you cards and a snack gift bags for the fire fighters.

Time to head out to our local Foxmill fire station~

The crew members at the station welcomed us warmly and were kind enough to show us around their nice fire engines and gears.

The kids had great time watching the fire fighter getting his "Darth Vader" mask on!

Thank you all for your hard work!
Stay warm!
